As a Douglas County School District (DCSD) school, we will always follow DCSD weather calls when they announce a closure or delay — however, there may be rare occasions when DCSD remains open and American Academy may still choose to delay or close based on conditions at our own campuses. Because of this, families should always monitor American Academy communications first (website + phone alerts) on mornings when winter weather is expected.
LM Families: On delayed start days, there is no staggered carpool/start. All campuses will run carpool at the same time and classes will begin at the same time. Please follow the specific times/directions that are sent out.
Weather Announcements
Cancellations, closures, and late starts will be posted on the American Academy website first, then shared with local TV stations. After that, families will receive alerts through our Emergency Communications system:
-
Text message first
-
Voice message (after 6:00 AM)
-
Email (before 6:00 AM)
-
Social media, as soon as possible
Early Release
If we need to release students early due to weather, the announcement will be posted on the website first, then sent through our Emergency Communications notifications. Carpool, although early, will run normally unless otherwise communicated. *No staggered pickup for LM students; follow posted times/directions.
Please review our Alternate Dismissal Procedures ahead of time so you are familiar with the different carpool formats we may implement based on conditions.
