We are having so much fun in Drama class! 

 

Students are currently working on expressing themselves and creating engaging stories through pantomime techniques. Each class is working in small groups in order to create their own original pantomime story.

 

The skills that students are learning through this unit include: 

 

-Learning how to use body movement and expression to communicate messaging

-Engaging their creativity to invent an original story

-Combating anxiety through the practice of live performance

-Practicing how to communicate non-verbally

-Learning how to engage with an audience through empathy, humor and sincerity

 

Our next unit will take all of the above skills and take it to the next level, incorporating dialogue and connection into scene work.

Hello All!  

My name is Emily Armstrong and I am thrilled to be teaching your middle schoolers Drama this year!

I believe that the skills that students learn in Performing Arts are essential to their growth and development. Theater teaches students how to think creatively, explore every emotion, make important connections with others, and develop crucial communication skills. Theater embraces students from all backgrounds and experiences and demonstrates to them that every person has value, no matter where they come from or what they've experienced in life so far. 

In the classroom, students are exposed to many eras of Theater throughout History, different styles and techniques of acting, the art of Theater Design and elements of Technical Theater. We explore these subjects through guided discussion, research and live performance. Each student is encouraged to try new things and bring themselves out of their comfort zone so that they can enhance their overall skills in empathy, public speaking and storytelling.

I also encourage students to get involved outside of the classroom and dive into live performance even deeper by participating in the performing arts extra-curricular activities (specifically plays and musicals).

I have an open door policy with students and parents alike, so if you ever have any questions about Drama class or would like to get your student involved, I'm happy to help and discuss!
